Bonfires on Walpurgis Night
30 Apr - 30 Apr
Plats: Various places, Uppsala
18:00-22:00
Majbrasa, majkase, majbål – the bonfires on valborg or Walpurgis goes by many names. In Sweden and Finland, the Walpurgis celebration traditionally ends with the lighting of large bonfires – known as valborgseld, valborgsmässobål, majbål, majkase or most commonly, majbrasa. Once the fire is lit, a choir often sings traditional spring songs and someone gives a speech to welcome the season.
These bonfire events have been granted police permits for 2025:
- Rallarvägen, Vänge
- The beach, Storvreta
- Ekeby crossroads, Bälinge
- Hembygdsgården, Almunge
- Enevadsvägen, Lövstalöt
- Åkerby Church, Bälinge
- Fålhagen, Stabby
- Ulleråker
Ahead of Walpurgis Night, we’ll continue adding major bonfire events that receive police permits.
Take public transport
If you plan to visit one of the bonfires, we encourage you to use public transport rather than driving. Parking is limited at each location and can fill up quickly. Public transport also has many advantages – most importantly, it helps reduce overall carbon emissions and contributes to protecting the environment.
