Waste Collection Help Keep Valborg Clean

When large crowds gather to celebrate outdoors, unfortunately, a significant amount of litter ends up on the streets and in Uppsala’s parks. Cleaning up after Valborg costs the municipality nearly one million SEK—not to mention the negative impact on the environment. We want Valborg in Uppsala to be not just Sweden’s biggest celebration, but also Sweden’s cleanest and most sustainable festival. Every piece of trash that ends up in a bin instead of on the ground makes a difference for our city, our waterways, and our climate!

Use the waste bins and recycling stations placed throughout the city and parks. Small efforts can create big change!

A beloved part of the Valborg celebration is picnicking and gathering in Ekonomikum Park. To make the event more sustainable, we have introduced several clean-up initiatives in the park to help keep it tidy:

  • More accessible waste bins – so you always have one nearby.
  • Free trash bags – pick one up and keep your spot clean throughout the day.
  • Litter patrols – volunteers will walk around the park helping to collect waste.

1 Kilo of Collected Trash = 1 Krona for a Good Cause

For every kilo of waste you dispose of properly, our partners LF Uppsala and Akademiska Hus will donate money to the Children’s Fund at Uppsala University Hospital, which provides support and entertainment for children undergoing treatment. Additionally, all collected recyclable cans and bottles will be donated to charity in collaboration with Pantamera.

Now you have twice the reason to dispose of your waste properly—for the environment and for a good cause!
