Check the map or read more about the Varannan Vatten initiative here.
Police Presence
There will be a strong police presence throughout the city. If you feel unsafe or need assistance, approach an officer or call 114 14 for non-emergency police matters. If you witness or are a victim of a serious crime, always call 112.
Laws & Regulations
Alcohol
Drinking alcohol in public places during Valborg is prohibited unless the location has a permit for alcohol service. This also applies to storing alcohol in public areas. Violations may result in fines. Read more in the Public Order Act (1993:1617) and Uppsala Municipality’s local regulations.
Fireworks & Pyrotechnics
The use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic items requires police approval. Exceptions apply on April 30 between 18:00 and 02:00, but not near hospitals, healthcare facilities, or protected areas. Violations can result in fines according to the Public Order Act (1993:1617) and local regulations.
Littering
Littering in public spaces is illegal. Minor littering can result in fines, while more severe cases may lead to up to one year in prison under the Environmental Code (1998:808).

- Make a plan for the day with your group and check in with each other regularly.
- Drink water between alcoholic drinks—find water stations around the city.
- Are you a parent of a young Valborg celebrant? Talk about alcohol and drugs, set clear boundaries, and show interest in their plans. Keep in regular contact throughout the evening.
