Valborg celebrations continue – with safety in focus
On Tuesday, April 29, a tragic event occurred in central Uppsala where three people lost their lives in a shooting incident near Vaksala Square. Our thoughts go out to the victims and their loved ones.
According to the police, the incident was isolated and not directed at the public. The Valborg celebrations will therefore continue as planned.
Safety is a top priority. Police presence has been reinforced, and several actors – including the municipality, youth outreach services, and other safety-focused organizations – are working together to ensure a safe and inclusive celebration.
“Valborg is a cherished and joyful tradition in Uppsala. In times of concern, it’s more important than ever that we take care of one another and help create a safe and welcoming atmosphere,” says Erik Pelling, Chair of the Municipal Executive Committee.
Need someone to talk to?
The municipality’s crisis support services are available near the site of the incident, as well as at the Red Cross premises on Trädgårdsgatan 16 C, across from Östgöta Nation. You are welcome to stop by if you need someone to talk to. The youth outreach service is also available throughout the evening and the entire Valborg weekend.
Together, we can help ensure a safe Valborg celebration.
